Product Manual Archive
Happy new year, everybody. Let’s see if I can make this puppy entertaining enough to rise above 20 subscribers in 2009!
While I’m currently more on a minimalist than a retro kick, The Product Manual Archive is still a fun site to visit. Lacking in the Commodore and Sinclair/Timex computer department, but that’s what This site [...]
Obama logo ideas that weren’t chosen
I think they clearly picked the best one, but I like that all of the designs were far outside of the box that is normal political graphic design.
The Stories Behind Hollywood Studio Logos
A great article on the major studios’ logos and their evolution. Personally loving the Warner Brothers / Seven Arts logo, as well as the ‘72-’84 ‘Big W’. Also check out ClosingLogos wiki which is the source of most of the images shown.

Little Nemo in Slumberland titles
Examples of Winsor McCay’s amazing Little Nemo in Slumberland titles, along with an interesting conversation on why McCay, as a master draftsman, used such sloppy lettering for his main character’s speech bubbles.

That typeface? That would be telling. We want information.
One of the things that immediately appealed to me about The Prisoner was the use of typography to amplify the oddness of The Village. A modified version of Albertus was used on all signage, printed materials and credits. The consistency is part of it’s charm. Let’s hope that the remake doesn’t stick us with, oh, [...]
50 Incredible film posters from Poland
Wow. Some of these are…”out there”.
Legends of lettering: Gaspar Saladino Day
I was a Marvel zombie for the first part of my life so I missed out on a lot of great Gaspar stuff. Dial B for Blog is doing a great series of features on Gaspar’s work all day. Also, the awesome Todd Klein (who left his lettering mark on the second part of my [...]
“Kirby Crackle” as Illustrator brushes
Free download, too. a.k.a. Kirby Dots.
Jim Mahfood restyles Colt 45
Mahfood is one of my favorite artists around right now, and I’m tempted to buy a few bottles for the art alone. Emphasis on art alone, since I doubt they also had Jim make the recipe actually tasty. Tales of Colt 45
Remembering Geoffrey Frost
In a time where a crumbling Moto is playing the blame game, this blog post (along with it’s comments) is an interesting view at the man who started to save Motorola from itself, only to pass away before his time at age 56. It’s clear to see Motorola didn’t recover well from his passing.
